Goal-Setting Resources for 2012-2013
By SchoolCIO Advisor Steven Baule
As August and September tend to be “goal-setting time” for schools, I thought it might be a good idea to remind readers about some of the goal-setting resources available online to facilitate developing goals for the year. Many schools and districts are requiring measurable goals in “SMART goal” format or similar quantitatively measurable formats. Top Achievement provides a simple overview of the SMART goal format. 43Things is a goal development website that allows for online goal development and sharing. GoalBuddy is another goal-setting program that allows the user to enter sub-goals or objectives necessary to meet the overall goal as well as including a task manager for each goal/objective. Solid Goals allows for milestones, timelines, and deadlines that the site will remind you about. This can provide a clear overall picture of your process towards the goal. A couple of potential goal areas might include learning about the new PARCC assessment to address the Common Core standards, which were made available last week, or promise yourself to write a competitive grant for your district using the following Grant Calendar.
