The Virtual High School’s Advanced Placement®Pass Rate Continues to Surpass the National Average
Once again, The Virtual High School(VHS Inc.), a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization helping schools provide their students with a variety of online and blended learning programs, found that VHS students who sat for Advanced Placement® (AP) exams outperformed the national scores on the College Board AP® exams. In the 2016-2017 academic year, 67 percent of VHS students taking AP®courses scored a 3 or higher on the College Board exams, seven percentage points higher than the national average of 60 percent for the same exams.
“VHS has offered online AP®courses for the last 18 years, and we are well-known for our rigorous college preparatory curriculum. Schools that partner with us know they can count on our AP® program to help students earn college credits for Advanced Placement courses taken in high school,” said Carol Ribeiro, President & CEO of VHS. “VHS offers 23 College Board-authorized AP®courses – one of the largest online AP catalogs available anywhere!”
AP®course choices range from popular subjects such as Biology, Psychology, and English Literature and Composition to less conventional options such as Music Theory, Art History, Computer Science Principles, Human Geography, and more. “Educators and students are not only more likely to find an AP® option that matches student interests in our extensive selection, but once students select an option, educators can also rest assured that those students will be well-prepared for the College Board exams,”said Ribeiro.
One noteworthy example of VHS students surpassing the national average on VHS’AP courses is AP® Computer Science Principles, a new computer science course in which students think creatively and use technology to explore real-world questions in subjects that interest them. The VHS average student pass rate for the College Board exam was 94.1 percent while the national average was 74.5 percent.
