How to Incorporate Digital Learning for Increased Student Success
Blended learning is driving student success in schools across the U.S., and education leaders in school districts far and wide are taking notice of the results.
Blended learning combines online learning with traditional classroom methods and gives students a measure of control over the time, place, path and pace of their learning. This technique has improved performance by increasing student engagement and one-on-one and small-group time, resulting in enhanced differentiation of instruction and higher levels of student and peer achievement.
More than half of school principals have observed positive learning outcomes resulting from implementing digital and online content in the classroom, according to Project Tomorrow’s Speak Up research. Teachers are starting to view themselves as having blended classrooms—one in three teachers described their classrooms as blended in the past two years.
These educators have learned that reaching digital natives, the current generation of students who were born into mobile technology such as tablets and smart phones, through digital learning techniques meets them on their home turf. Ninety percent of middle and high school students and nearly 40 percent of elementary students have access to smart devices at home. They learn by search engine and expect to learn that way whether schools take advantage or not. But when they do, all stakeholders win.
