World of Reading
Name:World of Reading
Brief Description of the Site:
This site from the Ann Arbor Michigan public library system offers book reviews on favorite books written by and for kids. Children can read other children's reviews by searching for specific titles or browsing, and they can write their own reviews of books.
How to use the site:
Type the title of a book in the search box and write or search a review. Authors are listed by first name and age only. Reviews are brief and students can share work to get an idea of other writing styles. Or locate reviews by the author's location. Reviews are online from as close as your own state or from as far away as Australia, Malta, or Indonesia. Students can also sign up for the OnLine Book Clubs and start reading books in their email. Each day the library sends a 5-minute portion of a book. By the end of the week, students will have read 2-3 chapters. If they want to finish a book, they'll have to visit the library (any library) to check it out.
