December 10 is Human Rights Day. The United Nations mandated that a High Commissioner for promoting human rights be created in December, 1993. You’ll find a list of twenty achievements of this commission over the past twenty years. Of particular note is emphasis on protecting victims of torture and addressing human trafficking. The interactive timeline shows the mandates, committees, and conventions convened over the years to deal with human rights issues.
