The Writer’s Workshop: Skills for Success:
This site gives many suggestions on the organization of ideas by explaining the patterns that can be used. One common pattern is the chronological pattern. Each pattern is explained and the reasons for using that particular pattern are given. After learning about the pattern in general, specific examples show how to use that pattern of organization. Different kinds of writing use particular forms of organization while the area of study also influences the pattern used. For example, writing in geography would use the spatial pattern whereas science writing could use a sequential pattern or cause and effect. Becoming aware of these patterns will help your writing and your reading comprehension.
