Sign Writing: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
published
This favorite children’s book has been translated into Nicaraguan sign writing, based on Nicaraguan sign language, which is different from American sign language. Read about the fascinating history of this very recent discovery of the newly developed, and still developing, language. Deaf children who had not been taught sign language developed their own manual communication, which has its own complex syntax and language system. The manual sign language has now been transcribed through a system of sign writing, a way of writing down sign language which was developed for American Sign Language in the 1970s.
