Searingtown School Library Media Center
Name:Searingtown School Library Media Center
Brief Description of the Site:
Searingtown Elementary is a K-5 school located in Albertson, New York. The school’s Web site is maintained by Library Media Specialist, Karen Kliegman, and it’s the Library area that’s highlighted today. Filled with an abundance of resources, technology-enhanced activities, and general library information, this area of the site provides a great example of the kind of online support students, parents, and teachers can expect from a Library Media Specialist.
How to use the site:
Kliegman reports that the Library area is used for teaching, student research, and professional development. Teachers use the Bibliography Guide when helping students learn to properly cite various types of works in their assigned projects. The Virtual Reading Room introduces students to author, book series, online book clubs, and online newspapers and magazines. Sections such as Search Engines, Research Program, and Virtual Reference Desk are excellent tools for helping youngsters successfully research online material for projects. Tech Enhanced Activities features a number of K-5 WebQuests and other activities. You can also find links to completed student work from the Library Media Home page.
