Many state curriculum standards are geared to have students grasp that dance communicates meanings for a variety of cultures. They must also demonstrate an awareness of movement principles in different styles or traditions of dance. This site by the Pittsburgh Ballet addresses these standards in a section just for the younger students. It discusses themes and movements of ballet in an easy-to-understand format. The basic moves of ballet are shown in picture form so that students can try for themselves. A helpful glossary of ballet terms is also included.
