On this day in history, the former U.S.S.R. conducted the world's first underground nuclear test. PBS provides a plethora of primary sources, timelines, people, events, classroom guides, and much more to understand the development of military nuclear powers. Students and teachers will dive into details of the "superbomb" race throughout the Cold War leading up to that underground test. Special Features allow students to take a tour through a secret U.S. government bunker and check out destruction zones caused by H-bombs.
