Nova Teachers: Warnings from the Ice
published
You probably won’t experience temperatures as extreme as those in Antarctica this winter, but knowing a little about survival in cold weather is important anywhere. The research teams that go to Antarctica every year need to be careful about what they take and what they leave behind. This activity ask the students to plan what should be in a survival pack that would help them survive for 24 hours. Student handouts are provided, as well as the procedure to follow. Students working in teams determine the necessities for the survival pack. After their decisions have been made, they compare their packs with those of the other teams in class.
