New York Architecture: The Construction of the Empire State Building
published
Follow the construction of the iconic skyscraper in New York City from the excavation of the site in January, 1930, to its official opening by President Herbert Hoover on May 1, 1931. By clicking on the calendar you can watch the Empire State Building, the tallest in the world for over 40 years, rise before your eyes. The 3500 workers added an average of 4.5 stories per week and was completed in just over 13 months. Seeing the Empire State Building in relation to the other commercial buildings in the neighborhood reinforces just what an architectural feat this was.
