Discovery Education: Ivory Wars
published
The slaughter of elephants across Africa for their ivory tusks is putting pressure on the resilience of elephant herds in many areas. This lesson from Discovery asks students to research the use of ivory, the poaching and illegal sale of ivory, and ways that countries, not only in Africa, but across the world, are trying to stem the trade in ivory. Students do research on the World Wildlife Fund website among others to answer discussion questions in small groups, in a whole class mode, and individually. There is a rubric to use for assessment and suggested activities to extend the lesson.
