This lesson plan, based on the PBS program, Colonial House, explores why ordinary people left their homes in Europe to come to the New World. Included are activities as well as student work sheets. An interactive game asks students to take on the role of the owner of the Company that is going to the New World. Will the decisions made be good ones? Another one assesses whether the student would be able to survive in the colony. This is a great lesson that lets students personalize their learning and understanding of life in the 17th century.
