This is a fascinating project in which students use research skills, writing skills, engineering ideas, and knowledge of geography to figure out the solutions to their problems created when they stow away on a ship. The project uses real-time data of ships at sea and weather conditions in order to complete the lessons. Included is a reading list of novels that have survival themes. The teacher’s guide includes the handouts needed, assessment suggestions, and a list of the national standards that are addressed by the project.
