ARTSEDGE: Elements of Fable
published
During Fables Week next week, you can touch on global cultural understanding, appreciation of the oral tradition, discovery of the particular conceits of the fable, and the fun of reading fables, especially those attributed to Aesop. This ARTSEDGE lesson plan is for middle school students, but could be adapted to all ages. Find the vocabulary the students need for the lesson as well as a printable set of critical thinking questions about “The Fox and the Crow.” There is also a “theater” aspect to the instruction when students work on an improvisational activity based on the fable. Find a stash of fables on this site from the University of Massachusetts.
