The horse as we know it was not native to the Americas. After the die-out of the prehistoric horse at the end of the Pleistocene, modern horses did not reappear in North America until their introduction by the Spanish conquistadors in the late15th century. These magnificent creatures were embraced by Native Americans and their culture and lifestyles were changed by their relationship with the horse.
