Sugata Mitra is professor of educational technology at the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, UK. While at the National Institute of Information Technologies, where he remains chief scientist emeritus, Mitra ran what's known as the Hole in the Wall experiment to gauge unsupervised learning. A computer was placed in a kiosk in a slum in Kalkajo, Delhi, and children were allowed to use it freely, proving that children can learn to use computers without formal instruction. Mitra continues to explore what he calls minimally invasive education, working on educational technology for remote and rural areas.?
