Robert Mills Gagné
Robert Mills Gagné (1916-1969) began to develop his “conditions of learning” as a research manager at the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense following World War II. Throughout his career, the educational psychologist greatly added to the knowledge of instructional design and was a professor in the educational research department at Florida State University. He also was involved in applying instructional concepts to computer-based and multimedia learning. The “Nine Events of Instruction” are: gain attention; inform learner of objectives; stimulate recall of prior learning; present stimulus material; provide learner guidance; elicit performance; provide feedback; assess performance; and enhance retention transfer.
