Private Schools and Planning for Federal Funding
I’m assisting with the update of our district’s technology plan. We intend to apply for Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) funds. One committee member suggested we are required to include private schools in this plan. Is this true?
Private schools are eligible to share EETT funds with public school districts. You are required to consult with those private schools in your district’s service area that have eligible students enrolled. The NCLB legislation states that public school agencies will conduct "…timely and meaningful consultation with appropriate private school officials…" to provide equitable services and other benefits that address their needs.
If you are not sure which private schools in your area are eligible to share EETT funds, check with your state department of education. This agency should be able to provide you with a list.
