McAllen Names Interim Superintendent
published
The McAllen (TX) Independent School District governing board has named Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations Mike Barrera to lead the district while the search continues for a new superintendent.
Barrera has been with the district for 14 years and currently manages the district’s $200 million budget. He has also served as the district's director of career and technology education and executive director for middle school instruction.
The appointment caused some controversy because Barrera has applied to replace Yolanda Chapa, who tendered her resignation in August and asked to be allowed to leave before a new superintendent was named.
