Linux distribution recommendation
Question: Our IT department wants to do some pilot projects using Linux to install Wiki software for student projects and Wordpress for student blogs. Which distribution of Linux do you recommend we install and use?
The IT Guy says:
A multitude of Linux distributions exist. I have personally tried two and would highly recommend Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a Debian distribution and supports installation as packages that check “dependencies” on other software packages.
In addition to recommending Ubuntu Linux, I would also direct you to the XAMPP for Linux software. This will install Apache, mySQL, PHP, and phpMyAdmin to your Ubuntu Linux installation, and also allow you to secure it with a point and click web-based wizard.
For more about this, refer to my blog entry “Linux and Wordpress."
