Is it Okay to Make an Archival Copy?
published
Our mathematics textbooks each come with a CD for student use throughout the year. I just learned that the teachers decided not to distribute the CDs with the text because they were afraid the students would lose them. Currently they're in a file cabinet under lock and key! Isn't it permissible to make a back-up copy?
Tell the teachers to unlock the file cabinet. You are permitted to make an archival of each CD you have purchased. Assuming that the CD offers appropriate activities for students, it's a shame to limit or prevent access to them simply because the teachers fear the CDs will be lost or damaged.
