I, Robot
The U.S. faces a critical shortage of engineers and technical workers. Of the approximately 2.5 million students who graduate from high school each year, only 3.5 percent enter college and declare a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) major; of those, only about 40 percent will receive a STEM degree within six years.
To counter this bleak statistic, iRobot Corp., developer of practical robots, has launched a new program called SPARK (Starter Programs for the Advancement of Robotics Knowledge). At spark.irobot.com , educators and parents can find robot-related resources and communities to help build STEM curricula and use the wonder of robots to inspire in K-12 students a curiosity and interest in STEM education.
