FLA Association of Superintendents Launches PD Partnership with ASCD

Today at ASCD’s 68th Annual Conference and Exhibit Show, ASCD and the Florida Association of District School Superintendents (FADSS) announced a new partnership to provide FADSS members statewide customized professional development to aid in implementing Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in their districts.

FADSS provides members leadership development programs focused on student achievement, building relationships with business and governmental leaders, and communication and networking services.

ASCD’s new collaboration with FADSS will create a customized leadership development program for Florida superintendents, blending virtual and face-to-face components into a program to support district leaders implementing the standards in each of the state’s 67 school districts. The new program:

  • Creates a needs assessment for participating district leaders that identifies the leadership development resources needed for the successful implementation of the standards
  • Produces collaboration tools supporting the development and application of promising practices that districts can use to monitor and support schools with the implementation of standards
  • Reviews existing tools, strategies, and resources supporting superintendents and district-level leaders statewide in their role as instructional leaders focused on Common Core implementation and develops additional resources as necessary.

Working in a consultative capacity with FADSS staff, ASCD designed a leadership development plan that will commence in the coming months with the online, interactive self-assessment and a webinar series introducing key concepts.

A series of regional workshops led by ASCD faculty will follow, providing superintendents and their district-level administrators the research-based tools, resources, and strategies they need to lead the implementation of the Common Core State Standards in their districts. Following the workshop series, ASCD will conduct additional webinars for participants and support FADSS with ongoing virtual professional development and other services.
