Discovery Education Partners with New Hampshire Department of Education in the Name of Civics Education
A $1 million contract was approved between Discovery Education and the New Hampshire Department of Education (NHED) in March of this year. This partnership looks to provide an enhanced focus on civics education for students.
“Civics education is essential for all New Hampshire students to ensure that this future generation of adults can, with respect for others, both make their voices heard and understand alternative perspectives,” says New Hampshire Education Commissioner Frank Edleblut, who is well aware of the importance of civics education.
This isn’t the first time Discovery Education and NHED have interacted. In 2021, Discovery Education provided access to educational content for all New Hampshire educators. This allowed New Hampshire schools access to high-quality educational materials that both teachers and students could use. The new civics initiative builds on the existing partnership by creating a dedicated Civics Channel on the Discovery Education platform that will be available to educators this school year. Teachers will also have access to training for this new initiative.
Discovery Education will support the movement toward enhancing civics education engagement by providing the assets necessary to achieve this goal, including digital textbooks, custom-made resources, and much more.
With a focused effort to specifically address New Hampshire’s civic education needs, Discovery Education is giving students the opportunity to learn about their area’s politics, lawmaking, and government decisions. Understanding civics and individual rights, plus how to actively participate in a democracy, is just as critical to learn as any other subject.
