Poe AI: How to Use It to Teach
Poe AI is the one-stop spot for AI that can be a powerful education tool
Poe AI is a single platform that collates all the best AI tools out there for an easy way to get the best of artificial intelligence.
This can be a powerful tool for education as it offers lots of LLM options, from which you can pick the one ideally suited to the task at hand. This is a super simple option for anybody new to AI, but also offers deeper layers of complexity for those looking to explore in a bit more depth.
This is well-suited to education, making this helpful both for teachers planning and create lesson materials, as well as students researching and working on assignments.
This guide aims to lay out all you need to know about Poe AI for education.
What is Poe AI?
Poe AI is a single digital space that accesses lots of different LLM AI resources. Hence the name, which stands for Platform for Open Exploration. So from Claude and ChatGPT to Gemini and Dall-E, this has more than 70 AI brains available for you to use.
Crucially, this was designed as a way to search using multiple AI models. Since some are good at one thing and weaker at another, the idea behind Poe was to create a cohesive balance that takes the best from each, to give you the ultimate result.
To be clear, this won't let you type in a query and get one perfect response. Rather, it lets you compare what different AI models come back with so you can see which is best suited to the task at hand.

Poe AI launched back in February 2023, so it's relatively new still and may yet offer that single, perfect response one day, but for now you still have the options to pick yourself.
How does Poe AI work?
Poe AI requires you to sign up to get started, which can be done with a Google or Apple account. Alternatively, you can use your email with a phone number for verification to get you up and running. Desktop and smartphone apps are also available for download, if operating through a browser isn't what you want. The apps are faster, according to the service.
Type in the search bar or select a specific AI. If you use the search bar, you're met with a summarized response from the "Poe Assistant," which pulls in information from multiple AIs. You can then select compare on each one to see how these responded in more detail.
From there, you're able to dip into more option using other AIs, select from suggested follow-up questions, or type the next query into the search bar. This lets you type search, speak, and upload attachments for use -- ideal when using class resources or working on editing materials.
What are the best Poe AI features?
Poe AI offers lots of powerful features, since it uses all those different LLM options. For students, it's a great place to get started with research or to compile materials to go with assignments, such as posters or slides, for example.
For teachers, this is also a useful method for research, but perhaps more helpfully, this is a great way to build resources for lessons. From lesson plans and quizzes to slide shows and assessments, there are so many options across the various AI tools.
One really powerful feature is the ability to build your own chatbots. As a teacher you could make a bot that offers all the answers to what you expect students to ask on a topic, allowing you to spend more time on individuals or class, rather than going over questions that they can all ask on their personal devices.
Use a chatbot like a class assistant, or even a virtual character from history or science specialist, so students can learn directly in an engaging and conversational way.
How much does Poe AI cost?
Poe AI offers lots for free but to get the most out of this you need to pay a subscription. Although when you consider that this is the same price as many of the AI tools charge individually but get it all for one cost and in one place, it's a good deal.
The Free version gets you 150 messages or 3,000 points (20 points per message) to user per month.
The Premium model, at $20/monthly or $16.67/month if you pay annually, gets you no daily limits on the number of messages, access to exclusive models such as GPT-4, GPT-4-Turbo, and Claude-3.5-Opus, plus masses of capacity with 1 million compute points per month.
