Today's Newsletter: Teens, Screens, and Screams

Let the handwringing commence! Common Sense Media released a study this week that looks at screen time use by kids. The shocking stat for some: Teens use an average of nine hours of entertainment media per day, and tweens use an average of six hours, not including time spent using media for school or homework. CNN worries: “That's more time than teens typically spend sleeping, and more time than they spend with their parents and teachers.” Bustle is frightened. The Beacon Transcript describes it like this: “MEDIA TAKES AWAY 9 HOURS OF A TEENAGER’S DAY.” My take: Everyone should take a deep breath, take a hard look at the methodology, and realize that the online experience is part and parcel of everyday life, whether we like it or not. —Kevin Hogan, Content Director
