Today's Newsletter: Amplify—What Went Wrong

With all the back-to-school hubbub, I never really got a chance to dig into the obituaries for Amplify, the $1 billion edtech fiasco. Valerie Strauss in the Washington Post gives a good summary. Education Week offers an interactive timeline to follow the disaster in full motion. And ZDNet serves up some Monday-morning quarterbacking as to why Joel Klein’s folly never took hold. Of course, Tech&Learningcovered the company from the beginning (Amplify was also a sponsor for awhile). Personally I found the technology intriguing but the potential for it to be adopted remote. If anything, the failure of this pre-packaged, all-in-one-solution makes the idea of open education resources (OER) seem all the more realistic. —Kevin Hogan, Content Director
