The 2009 National Educational Computing Conference hosts a live Oxford-style debate today that proposes "Bricks and Mortar Schools are Detrimental to the Future of Education." Panelists will present arguments reflective of a variety of perspectives, including education, technology, sociology, and that of students.
Before and during the debate, questions and discussion from outside the conference will be encouraged via ISTEConnects. While the debate is in session, a blogger for ISTEConnects will be collecting and selecting questions from those submitted by remote attendees of the debate.
In addition, online participants can also cast a "for" or "against" vote at the session's start, then vote again at the session's conclusion. The side that has persuaded the most people to change their vote is the winner.
This session will also be broadcast live to the Internet via the ISTE Vision Network (www.istevision.org).
