The Chicago-based academic journal publishing startup, Scholastica has launched a website offering collections of slave narratives - memoirs of former slaves as well as audio interviews with former slaves.
After seeing the film 12 Years A Slave (which is based on the memoir of its protagonist, Solomon Northup), site founders were inspired to create a site to house narratives written by former slaves, along with audio clips of interviews with former slaves.
The site, SlaveryStories.org, also serves as an open source project, so that anyone can contribute more narratives or use the ones already posted for their research.
