Today's Newsletter: Friday’s Ed Tech Roundup
Friday’s Ed Tech Roundup: So much for the dog days of summer. It was a busy week for those following the ins-and-outs of the edtech world. We started off watching the beginnings of the Khan Academy backlash. On Tuesday, the online education venture called Cousera announced partnerships with Stanford, University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton. We predict these sort of offerings at the higher-ed level are a harbinger for things to come in the k-12 space. Google’s recent Kansas City study quickly brought us back to earth in regards to the persistent digital divide problem. The one other major announcement came from the Obama Administration: a $1 billion program to support up to 10,000 master teachers in Science, Technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects around the country. That’s enough for one week! —Kevin Hogan, Editorial Director
