Florida Virtual School (FLVS®) recently launched the studio by FLVS, a collection of live online workshops, webinars, videos and more, tailored to different skill levels and interests. This summer, the studio by FLVS offerings include live workshops, an online game design program and an Elementary summer camp on demand.
The FLVS Live Workshop Series, features live online lessons on a variety of interesting topics including digital photography, cooking a summer or autumn menu, beginning a sketchbook, learning calligraphy, using Google Docs and more. Each four-week workshop incorporates an hour-long live lesson and follow-up activities each week. Each workshop is $40 and open to students in middle and high school as well as to adults. Registration for Summer Session 1 closes July 6 and Summer Session 2 closes Aug. 3.
Students can design their own video game with Gamestar Mechanic’s Online Summer Game Design Program (recommended for students ages 10-14). Students will learn techniques used by some of the best designers in the industry, and receive one-on-one coaching from professional designers. At the end of the four-week program, each student will have their own game portfolio. The program is available from July 2 until the end of August. Registration closes Aug. 6. The game design program is available for $299 per student.
The studio by FLVS includes a special blended summer camp for children in Pre-K through second grade. Elementary Camp on Demand features themed sessions that last two weeks and includes daily activities for parents to do with their children. Online webinars, led by the FLVS camp counselor, will engage children and get them excited about activities, games, arts and crafts, summer recipes and science experiments they will conduct with their parents. In Camp Session 2 – Environment, children will create a salt-water wash, eat a lemon lime slushy, play cotton ball toss and do more activities that focus on the environment. Camp Session 2 runs from July 16 – 27, with registration closing on July 13. The Elementary Camp on Demand is $20 per session.
