Newark Offers All Residents Free Access to Mobile App Building Course
Today the City of Newark’s Office of Informational Technology announced its partnership with STEM software and curriculum provider Gadget Software to make technology skills available to all city residents through the company’s Gadget Labs program. Starting this month, the city will offer Gadget Software’s curriculum and software platform to Newark youth as part of the city’s Newark Tech initiative. In September, the courses will become available to all Newark adults.
Gadget Software’s Gadget Labs course, which consists of three lab modules, will be offered initially at three Newark Housing Authority sites throughout the city—eventually expanding to more locations—with each module running for about 10 weeks. Newark’s City of Code Coding club will teach the Gadget Labs software and curriculum, and Gadget Labs will provide the environment for prerequisite training for potential participants, training for future instructors, mentorship and an example as a thriving Newark-based tech company.
