Today's Newsletter: National Education Tech Plan Gets First Reviews
The big edtech news last week was the release of the 2016 NETP. This weekend it seems a few people got around to reading it. First, Karen Cator gives the plan some historical context: “In 2010 we asked: What does learning look like in the 21st century learning? How do people learn and how can technology support teachers, learners, and leaders, and ensure equity and improve productivity?” Leo Doran at EdWeek highlights some changes: “[The plan] calls for incorporating ed tech into a wider variety of arenas in the education sector than they had called for in previous plans, and putting a focus on improving digital equity across schools—a major source of concern in some districts.” Nicole Gorman at Education World points out the DOE’s disapproval of BYOD: “undefinedt can be very difficult for teachers to manage learning experiences and activities when they have to support multiple platforms and device types, and some activities may be incompatible with some devices.” Can’t say I have had the chance to work though the report myself, but be sure to see our take in the next few weeks. —Kevin Hogan, Content Director
