My Big Campus- collaborative online environment for schools
by David Andrade
My Big Campus, from Lightspeed Systems, is an online service that allows schools to create an engaging, collaborative online environment.
I’ve been using it since September and am finding it very easy and useful. I wrote aboutmy intial impressions hereand will be documenting my experience using it throughout this school year.
I’ve been using My Big Campus with my AP Physics class and just started getting the honors Physics classes on board. One of the features they love is the collaboration tools. The AP students have been using the chat and discussion features to help each other with homework problems and when studying. They like the fact that there are no distractions when they use My Big Campus like there is when they talk via Facebook or Twitter. It’s also faster and easier than texting on their phone.
It’s been so popular, the honors Physics classes want to set up a discussion board for homework and study help and want the AP Physics students to be involved as tutors and mentors. I really like this idea and I’m going to work on setting it up over the next week or so.
My Big Campus has a lot of great features that are making things easier and better for me, as well as for my students. I’ve been uploading files for them to use for class, along with links and other resources. The students have been contacting me and each other through My Big Campus to get help. They said this is one of the best features because instead of getting frustrated and quiting, they can get help and learn.
