September 15 through October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month, time to celebrate Hispanic culture and pride. The Web sites below are starting points for exploring the diversity, history, and rich contributions of Hispanic peoples.
Historical Heritage
Hispanic History in the Americas
This site provides an interactive map as the basis for exploring timelines of Hispanic history in various regions stretching from the Caribbean to California and New York.
The People and History of Mexico
This rich compendium of resources about Mexico's vast and exciting history includes over 300 extensive informational articles. The major entry points are through the Time-Line and the Historical Persons Index. "This Month in Mexico's History" provides a month-by-month listing of major events, with links to additional information.
Ethnic Heritage: Hispanic
Take a virtual tour of National Parks with Hispanic heritage significance. From the Cabrillo National Monument to the Tumacacori National Historical Park, from the missions to the battlefields, from treaty signings to coral reefs and pirates, the National parks preserve the "sense of place" for key aspects of Hispanic history in North America.

Focusing on "Mexicans, Chicanos, and/or Mexican/Americans", this Web site features links to a variety of resources, the best of which explore the nature of ethnic identity. The "Ethnicity Study" offers thought-provoking summary results from a "Latino Ethnic Attitude Survey" conducted by Daniel Roy. Other links include art, dance, music, history, and current events.
Magic Tales of Mexico
Collected by Gabriel A. Cordova, Jr., these ten folktales of magic come from the Texas Mexico border, compiled from field work in 1949 and 1950. Each story is available in both the original Spanish as well in English translation, with accompanying notes.

Latino Virtual Gallery

Hispano Music and Culture of the Northern Rio Grande:The Juan B. Rael Collection
This online presentation of the ethnographic field collection of Juan Bautista Rael is a collection of religious and secular music of Spanish-speaking residents of rural Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. In addition to the audio recordings, there are several manuscript materials and essays providing insight into the musical heritage and cultural traditions of the area.
Virtual Museum of Arts El Pais
MUVA, the Virtual Museum of Art, provides virtual tours in Spanish or English of the Uruguayan museum's collections and exhibits of Latin American art. Visitors can wander through MUVA's rooms, zoom in on a particular piece of art, and read the Informational notes about the pieces of art.
