School Site of the Month

By Laura Pearl

April 2001
Walter Johnson High School

The namesake of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Md., was one of the first members of the Hall of Fame, and he's honored in every area of this site. The table of contents has pop-out windows that tell visitors what information the links lead to, and every page has a small baseball that shows where you are. Beyond the baseball theme, the site is filled with interesting graphics related to student projects, calendars and schedules, course descriptions, and links to teachers' e-mail addresses. There is also a homework board, so nobody has an excuse for missing homework-even though this site makes you want to skip school and head to the ballpark.

Laura Pearl is a fourth-grade teacher at Convent of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco.
