Name:
Meadows Elementary School
Brief Description of the Site:
Meadows is a K-5 elementary school in the Manhattan Beach Unified School District in Southern California. Through the efforts of a volunteer Webmaster and the support of the local parent group, the school's Web site was developed and is maintained without the use of public funds. Although it's not flashy, this is an excellent example of how parent volunteers, the school's administration, and teachers can work together to build an information resource for the school community.
How to use the site:
Regular communication is the focal point of this site. The principal faithfully posts weekly newsletters, and many of the teachers have done a great job keeping their newsletters for parents up-to-date. The Webmaster reports, "We have made great strides toward reducing school operating costs by digitizing the teachers' weekly newsletters and the weekly 'Tuesday envelopes' in which materials are sent home to parents." Check out examples of these communiquýs in the newsletter links. You will also find links to school enrichment activities and summer camps; academic links; and budget information, a major concern for many schools these days.
