Site of the Day

Name: Bower Hill Elementary School

Brief Description of the Site:
Bower Hill, an elementary school located in Venetia, Pennsylvania, serves 650 students in grades K-3. The school's principal, Toni Sulkowski, reports that they use their Web site as a tool for parent communication. It includes information from the PTA, teacher newsletters, activity announcements, and similar information.

How to use the site:
Two areas are especially interesting in terms of content and approach to information sharing. The ABC's of Kindergarten is a section for parents planning to register their children for fall Kindergarten classes. Everything parents need to know, including documents to bring, forms to complete, and times to register is available online. There is also a virtual tour of Kindergarten classrooms and an overview of the curriculum. The second area of particular interest is Classroom Newsletters. While you may find one or two that are outdated, most are current and interesting to read. Teacher visitors to the site will want to review these for ideas on crafting their own parent newsletters.
