WinXP Installation Problem
Question:
While logged in as Administrator in Win2000 and attempting to install Win XP, I repeatedly get an "Only an administrator may install . . . " In addition, when I click on the Check Compatibility buttons, that part tries to start (cursor turns to an hourglass) and then stops (turns back to an arrow). I can do everything else an Administrator should be able to do ... e.g. "manage" the computer, but this is a problem.
The machine has one HD with two partitions, C with Win98SE and D with Win2000 Pro and SP3. It is networked with a machine with Win XP and one with 2000. I have tried two install different CDs with same result.
The IT Guy says:
Try creating a new user account with administrator rights and try again. Check to see if the default administrator account is set to the account you are using. Alternatively, you can log in as the administrator by pressing control-alt-delete twice at the startup welcome screen. A normal login screen will appear, and you should be able to login with the username ýadministratorý and your chosen password. You can change this password with the User Manager.
