Technology & Learning Magazine

Editorial Guidelines

Technology & Learning magazine is circulated to over 80,000 elementary, middle, and high school teachers, technology coordinators, and administrators at the building, district, and state levels. We publish articles that encourage educators to think about new approaches to teaching and new ways to use technology in the classroom. We cover all aspects of educational technology: hardware, software, and the Web.

There are three sections of the magazine to which you might contribute.

Feature Articles

These articles are assigned by our editors. They are of general interest, appealing to a broad audience of K-12 educators (covering a range of grade levels, subject areas, etc.). Manuscripts are generally between 1,200 to 2,500 words in length. Payment varies from $400 or more on publication. If you are interested in authoring feature articles for Technology & Learning your best approach is to send a query letter with specific article ideas and clips of your previously published work.

Software Evaluations

Evaluations are assigned through our editorial offices. If you have regular access to a school setting and would like to review educational or administrative products, let us know your areas of interest and expertise as well as the computer(s) and other hardware you have available to you. You may also want to suggest specific software programs you feel qualified to review. We will send you specific evaluation guidelines when we assign a review to you. Payment varies depending on the assignment.

What Works

In addition, we are always looking for "success stories" from schools/districts that are using technology in innovative ways to help students, teachers and community members. Although our What Works department is written in-house and does not involve payment or bylines for the individuals and schools mentioned, it is a way for educators to get the word out about what's happening in their districts.

General Guidelines for Writers

Submissions and queries may be e-mailed to techlearning_editors@cmp.com. Please place query or article abstract in the body of the message. Articles may be attached to the e-mail in Microsoft Word or plain-text format.

Queries should be accompanied by a writing sample or published clips.

Hard-copy submissions without the authorýs e-mail address or a self-addressed, stamped envelope will receive no response. Manuscripts will not be returned unless requested and accompanied by an SASE.

  • Leave wide margins and space at the top and bottom of the paper.
  • Double-space all text.
  • Place name, title and page numbers on all pages of your manuscript.
  • Include a work/home phone number and e-mail address on the manuscript or cover letter.

Do not send simultaneous submissions.

Allow at least 8 weeks for a response. Then if you have not heard from us, e-mail techlearning_editors@nbmedia.com and ask for the status of the manuscript.

Send queries or completed manuscripts to:
